John Edwards and My Boobs
If you haven’t heard, John Edwards has announced that he’s going to run for president. I met Mr. Edwards when he did a signing for his book Home: The Blueprints of Our Lives back in late November. Guess which picture the New York Times decided to use in an article about his strategy? Those would [...]

More Best of 2006 Lists
The Phoenix has top 10 lists of non-fiction and fiction. The Village Voice meanwhile has a longer list of both fiction and non-fiction, all alphabetically listed to show that no book is valued above another, well except these which are better than all the rest.

Excuses Excuses
Last week I spent much of my time on the sales floor, helping customers find books and keeping the floor well stocked. This week I’m busy getting the store ready for the new year. A new season of books is ready to flood the store starting in January and we usually spend this week getting [...]

New Rupert Thomson Novel!
I literally squealed when I saw the page in the catalog. It’s called Death of a Murderer and is due sometime in August 2007. Here’s what the catalog page says: Rupert Thomson—a “true master,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle—now gives us his most powerful work yet, the story of a woman who, even after [...]

Bookshelf Porn
Look at all these neat bookshelves (thanks again Condalmo)! Right now Mr Bookdwarf and I are considering installing some more permanent bookshelves in the bedroom to help with the growing library. We’re thinking about going with something like this. It could become quite a project.

Harry Potter News
PW just alerted me to the fact that the seventh and supposedly final Harry Potter finally has a name—Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—though still no publication date. Perhaps she could have gone with Harry Potter and the Billions He Made Me?

4 More Days Left of Insanity
Only a few days left before X-mas and it’s getting crazier each day in my store. I’m looking foward to the quiet of next week, but that will not be until after I go to Hartford to see the family. I’m reading when I can. I’ve finished Sigrid Nunez’s The Last of Her Kind—it’s amazing, [...]

More Odds and Ends
I know there is a problem with the RSS feed for this site. It’s being fixed so I’ve heard. I spotted this in yesterday’s Publisher’s Marketplace deals: Gavin Grant and Kelly Link’s UNDER THE RADAR: The Best of Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, an anthology of the best fiction, nonfiction. and poetry that has appeared in [...]

More Best of the Year Lists
The San Francisco Chronicle posted their list of the best books of the year this weekend. Their top pick is Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. “His tale of survival and the miracle of goodness only adds to McCarthy’s stature as a living master. It’s gripping, frightening and, ultimately, beautiful. It might very well be the best [...]

7 Days Left of Insanity
Posting will be sporadic this week due to the madness that is the holiday shopping season. I’m leaving you with some links that I would like to read myself, if I didn’t have too much to do. As you’ve no doubt heard, Judith Regan has been fired from HarperCollins. The New York Times says that [...]

Technical Matters
If anyone has tried to email me in the past day or so and it bounced back, my inbox was full. I’ve fixed the issue, so email away. Also, I’m switching the blog over to WordPress and there may (almost certainly) be some technical problems. Any advice to make it easier? I’ll also take suggestions [...]

Tuesday’s Links
Publisher NYRB Classics joins the blogosphere with their blog A Different Stripe. I like their use of color. Their responsible for one of my favorite books of the year, Love in a Fallen City by Eileen Chang. Other bloggers have already commented on Genevieve Tucker’s article on litblogs in The Australian. While I’m glad they [...]

More Best Books of 2006 Lists
Everyone is busy putting together their lists. The Globe has both a fiction and non-fiction list. Why the non-fiction list is twice as long is beyond me, though I like Gail Caldwell’s list. The Washington Post has a Top Ten list, half fiction, half non-fiction. However the Denver Post has a list of 50 Reads [...]

Freaking Brilliant Idea About Book Covers
Bud posted about Penguin publishing blank covered books so that the reader can create their own cover. Of course, they’re doing this in the UK. No word on if this will be happening here in the US. Check out the cool My Penguin gallery website. In my opinion, book covers can make or break a [...]
